the society of typographic arts: 75th anniversary
the challenge for the event was to create a brand that summed up 75 years of graphic design in chicago. with developing the event mark, which we felt needed to be typographic, uses typefaces designed by sta members and the color purple represents the first invitation printed on purple paper back in 1927.
dawn design worked with a team for the event planning and research, as well as to promote a series of 3 events during the month long celebration. design for the main invitation promoting the full series portrays the feeling of celebration through the use of color. for the main event celebration, the guests received a commemorative keepsake that included a history and timeline summarizing the 75 years of graphic design in chicago. the timeline book, designed as an accordion fold, gives the timeline a continuous flow and highlights important events over the 75 year span of the organization. the keepsake has the sta75 logo blind embossed on the covers and wrapped in a 4-color band of historic chicago graphic design pieces. other supporting materials included t-shirts and posters.
